People who don’t live in Columbia are always amazed to learn about all the great activities the Midlands offers. And, we can tell you that many states do not have anything like the South Carolina State Museum. What child doesn’t look forward to a field trip to the museum? School groups come from all over the state to enjoy its offerings. And what family isn’t excited to spend a day together there? What a great weekend outing!
Through innovative partnerships, comprehensive collections (everything and more than you can hope to learn in third grade S.C history), and stimulating exhibits (have you SEEN Animal Grossology!?) and programs (on Saturday, May 14th there’s a great lecture on The Mystery of the H.L. Hunley), The S.C. State Museum provides educational environments that entertain, insppire imagination and creativity, and enrich the lives of its visitors. Did you know that it was voted one of the three top museums by Southeastern readers of Southern Living magazine, along with the High Museum in Atlanta and the Smithsonian Institution? Impressive. And it’s right in our backyard.
The museum is just one of the many organizations in the Midlands that make this area so rich with culture, education and opportunity for growth. And, without our support it is not able to continue to grow and provide our community with quality exhibitions and educational programming.
Engaging children in giving that is tangible to them helps make it real to them. Particularly if it’s something they care about. There are many ways we can support the S.C. State Museum and include our children in the effort. I mean, what kid wouldn’t get excited about “The Slime Game?” And, it’s for their benefit and the benefit of our state.
You can become a member, which is available at different levels and provides your family with numerous benefits all while supporting the museum. Also there are a number of different ways you can donate to the museum. Talk to your kids about how they’d like to help ensure the museum is here for generations to come!
As one museum supporter noted, supporters ”… enable the Museum to become part of a vibrant and growing investment in the lives of future citizens.” We couldn’t agree more.
What are you doing this weekend? Pack up the kids and take them to the S.C. State Museum! The lucky winner of our Family Fun Friday Facebook giveaway will have free tickets!
